1. Mascara wands make the best eyebrow brushes. When its time to toss your favorite tube of mascara — you should replace every 3 months to protect your peepers from bacteria — save the wand. Wash it clean with soap and water and, voila, free brow spoolie!

2. Turn any eyeshadow into a long-lasting eyeliner with a drop of saline solution. I learned this trick years ago from Carmindy on What Not to Wear. Wet an eyeliner brush with a drop or two of saline solution (the same stuff you use to clean your contact lenses) then dip the brush into a powder eyeshadow and apply it like liquid liner. When it dries, it’s sweat and smudge proof and lasts all day. I love using this trick with purple, green and teal shadows…

What Makes a Highly Sensitive Person?

Therese J. Borchard

highly-sensitive-peopleMy mom called me her “flapper” when I was a baby. Whenever I got excited, I would flap my arms, like I was young chick taking off for flight … in front of a hawk. I still do that, to some extent, but I manage to keep the arm movements to a minimum extension.

I am easily excitable, a “highly sensitive person,” as defined by Elaine Aron in her bestseller, “The Highly Sensitive Person.” If you answer yes to most of these questions on her website, you’re probably in the club, which holds 15 to 20 percent of human beings:

  • Are you easily overwhelmed by such things as bright lights, strong smells, coarse fabrics, or sirens nearby?
  • Do you get rattled when you have a lot to do in a short amount of time?
  • Do you make a point of avoiding violent movies and TV shows?
  • Do you need…

How will you know ,

How do you know if you’re ready for death?
Man’s greatest fear is death.
I want to know that if I were to die right now what would my death be like?
Would it be painful, would it be pleasurable, would it be sweet?

Here is an answer:
Your death will be exactly as your prayer is to you right now.
Why?
Because when you pray salaat what do you do? You go and meet Allah. When you die what happens?

You go and meet Allah. If you dislike meeting Allah while you are in this world in the body, why would you want to meet Allah when you leave the body?
If salaat is sweet to you right now your death would be sweet if you died right now.
If you eagerly wait for salaat, then
when death comes to you, you will eagerly wait to be released from this cage and soar to new heights.
If your salaat is a burden on you right now, death will be a burden on you if you die right now.

If salaat is painful,
death will be painful.
Look at your salaat, improve your salaat, and you will improve your connection to Allah,
because …..

both of these are nothing but a
meeting with Allah.

Let’s Talk About…TEETHING!

The Muslimah Mommy

There are so many teething products out there, such as teething necklaces, gels, toys, etc. Some natural ways to help ease the pain of teething are to give your baby frozen wash cloths or teething toys to chew on; the idea here is to allow the frozen items numb the pain. This is the method I used for my oldest daughter, and it seemed to work! For my second daughter, I used Camilia homeopathic teething drops; they were so effective I alway made sure I had a good stock in my medicine cabinet and in my diaper bag. In between these drops, my daughter was creative, and put anything and everything in her mouth – yes, even her shoes and her rocker!

I Wrote a Book, Now I Need Your Help!

THIS BLOG HAS MOVED TO WWW.SUCKLEDSUNNAH.COM

After starting the blog Suckled Sunnah, I learned so much inspiring and resourceful information about Islam and breastfeeding.  A few months ago, as I was completing my classes for the International Board Certification Lactation Exam my husband encouraged me to compile this information in a book.  I liked the idea of being able to share my knowledge and promote the benefits of breastfeeding in a format that will be more accessible to people worldwide.  So, I wrote a book entitled The Muslim Companion to Breastfeeding.  It has several chapters and provides information about breastfeeding that is relevant to Muslims  such as quranic verses, hadith, common fiqh issues, seerah, sunnah, explains why breastfeeding is best for Muslim families and explains how breastfeeding is from the fitrah, inherently a part of our spiritual and physical inclinations.  It also includes culturally-relevant recipes for teas, smoothies, snacks and stews, a guide on getting started…
